**This Job requires traveling that sometimes might be over 50 miles one way to which ever office is assigned**

Job Summary

Position: Dental Surgery Assistant (May work as a regular dental assistant or inventory coordinator on non-surgery days). Ideal for someone who lives in northern or central Columbus.

Status: Full-Time

Compensation: $13-$17.50/hr depending on experience. Travel pay will depend on the location traveled to. Travel pay calculates out to add about $2.50 per hour depending on the location.

Travel: Yes (to different dental office locations and more locations in the future). Depending on the office traveled to, travel pay may vary. Surgeries will usually be held in the following locations every week: Columbus West or East, Springfield, Zanesville, Marion, Logan. It is uncommon that Surgery Assistants be asked to go to Ashland, Akron, or Sharonville.

Training: Some training will be provided to transition into surgery

Weekends (optional): Assistant may be subjected to working one weekend day a month. Schedules are given a month prior to indicate which office the Surgery Assistant will be at every day. If the Assistant would like to pick up more hours, they can do so during weekend surgery days.

Benefits: After being with Alpha Dental one year: Holiday pay, Person Day Pay, Vacation Pay, Dental, and health insurance.

Bonuses: If production goals are met, bonuses will be awarded on a monthly basis.

Alpha Dental is seeking applications for a reliable and motivated Dental Surgery Assistant to work in several established, growing, and high volume dental practices. Because Alpha Dental harbors a friendly, motivated, and a team oriented environment, applicants are expected to possess qualities that are similarly aligned.

Applicants must be able to tune into details while balancing service quality with efficiency. Since communication is key in a fast-paced/high volume practice, applicants are required to share knowledge and pass information quickly and effectively–all to promote a fluid work environment.

Traveling Surgery Assistants will be exposed to simple extractions, complex full mouth extractions, torus removal, biopsies, wisdom teeth extractions, impacted tooth extractions, Alveoloplasty, and other surgical procedures.

One of the most important functions of Dental Surgery Assistants in our practice is assisting doctors and taking instructions well. FAST PACE surgeries and efficient dentistry is very important since patients are put under IV Conscious Sedation. Although proper chairside assisting is very important for this job, all other dental assistant duties –coupled with customer service– are equally important.

Along with the aforementioned requirements, it is also expected that the Dental Surgery Assistant:

-Efficient, quick, and safe sterilization practices. Know how to properly sterilize surgical instruments and surgical handpieces

-Proficiency with dental instruments and chairside hardware

-Be open to a long term commitment–ultimately to grow with the practice

-Be punctual

-Be able to communicate effectively with patients (good customer service skills)

-Be able to clearly communicate post-op instructions to parents, friends, and family of the sedated patient.

-Be able to handle IV Sedation disposables

-Be able to properly suction with both the EVAC and Saliva Ejector simultaneously

-Be able to properly assist with suturing

-Be able to monitor sedated patients

-Be able to place EKG patches

-Be able to operate a Pulse Ox machine

-Be able to properly take blood pressures and wrap blood pressure cuffs

-Be able to work well under pressure and time constraints

-Have a high motivation for patient care

-Strong knowledge of dental and surgical terminologies

-Adaptable to dental software (strong knowledge of Dentrix is a plus)

-Has an Ohio Radiology Certificate

-Hepatitis B Vaccinations up to date

-Have a strong passion for dentistry and passion for the position

Duties of the Dental Assistant will include, but is not limited to:

-Assisting alongside doctors

-Conducting Panoramic and intraoral Xrays

-Communicating and instructing patients/parents regarding their dental needs and help to alleviate any concerns or questions they may have

-Communicating proper pre-op and post-op instructions

-Communicate and coordinate with all the team members and management staff to not only provide a productive work environment, but also to set/achieve office goals.

-Assist with all Dental Assistant functions (Prepping rooms, instrument setup/sanitation, model pouring/prep, etc)

-Assisting with Front Desk functions

-Help inventory and complete order check-lists (particularly with surgery supplies)

-Help close by cleaning and tidying up the entire office alongside staff

-Quickly turn over surgery rooms for the next surgery patient by thoroughly cleaning

-Sterilization of surgery packs

-Organization of Portable Surgery Cart

Required to have a reliable and insured vehicle. Must show up to the office at least 30 minutes prior to surgery to set-up.
